Turn 57 • Day 2Turn 25 of 32

The late afternoon sun finally dipped below the horizon line across the harbour, leaving the fifth-floor open-plan office of Corravale Beverages bathed in a quiet, amber twilight. The steady hum of the marketing pod had thinned out entirely as the last of his colleagues packed up their things and headed for the elevators, leaving Ryan standing by his desk with his canvas messenger bag slung over one shoulder. He paused for a moment to ensure his laptop was fully powered down, his gaze drifting over the neatly aligned stack of vendor contact cards and the empty ceramic mug resting beside his keyboard.

As he reached out to steady his articulated desk lamp before heading out, his eye caught on a tiny, ordinary detail right at the base of the metal arm. Tucked into the recessed circular groove where the pivot joint met the weighted cast-iron base was a microscopic manufacturing dimple—a minuscule, perfectly round depression left over from some long-forgotten factory press, now catching a faint thread of grey dust. It was an utterly mundane quirk of mass production, completely insignificant and entirely unseen through months of late-night event planning and early-morning spreadsheet reviews.

Ryan offered the tiny, overlooked imperfection a quiet, appreciative nod, finding a strange comfort in the silent, enduring permanence of office furniture. With his desk settled and the evening commute waiting, he turned away from the pod and stepped out onto the hushed, carpeted corridor toward the lifts, ready to make his way back to Rhodes.

No suggestion won this turn. The story continued on its own.
