Turn 320 • Day 10Turn 32 of 32

The biting mountain wind swept across the desolate platform, carrying the distant, metallic groan of the approaching regional service and forcing Ryan to pull his lapels tight against the chill. Standing alone in the damp, shifting fog, he stared down the empty rail corridor and pondered his next anonymous destination—perhaps a drowsy coastal fruit-picking town far past the state border, or a quiet inland junction where corporate asset tags and phantom ledgers had no currency. Yet even as the vague outlines of a rootless existence drifted through his tired mind, a heavy, familiar fatigue tugged at his bones, whispering that running from a desk job was a marathon for which he possessed neither the gear nor the stamina.

By 22:00, the surreal disorientation of the regional detour had dissolved into the quiet, predictable geometry of the familiar sixth-floor hallway in Rhodes. Ryan unlocked his front door, stepped inside the modest apartment, and carefully placed his empty canvas messenger bag by the threshold. With slow, deliberate movements, he kicked off his scuffed leather shoes, walked over to the windowsill, and used the small ceramic cup to give Chief, the struggling green spider plant, a modest drink of water. Finally, standing in the comforting hush of his living space, he reached out and clicked off the wall switch, plunging the room into darkness as the late-night trains rumbled softly past along the dark rail corridor outside.

No suggestion won this turn. The story continued on its own.
