Turn 199 • Day 7Turn 7 of 32

Before Ryan could retreat back toward the relative safety of his sixth-floor unit to escape the strata inspector's looming threat, the building's glass front doors swung open to admit a frantic neighbor. A young resident from the floor below hurried across the tiled lobby, his breathing ragged and his eyes wide behind fogged glasses, practically latching onto Ryan's sleeve. He stammered something incoherent about a colossal, shrink-wrapped timber crate dropped off by an unmarked flatbed truck that now completely barred the foyer, trapping residents and turning the morning exit into a logistical labyrinth.

Sighing with the deep, bone-weary resignation of a man whose weekend had long since been commandeered by phantom administrative paperwork, Ryan allowed himself to be guided toward the entrance. Sure enough, a towering wooden pallet sat wedged squarely between the mailboxes and the sliding glass doors, bearing a customs stamp that mirrored the exact freight codes haunting his corporate spreadsheets upstairs. As the breathless neighbor hovered anxiously, waiting for him to take charge, Ryan reached out to touch the heavy plastic wrapping, wondering with a cold, quiet dread how a commercial distribution error from his office desk had managed to physically follow him down to his own front door.

No suggestion won this turn. The story continued on its own.
