Turn 194 • Day 7Turn 2 of 32

The soft whistle of the stainless steel kettle cut through the quiet of the apartment, and Ryan automatically reached out to silence the flame, his movements practiced and measured against the early morning light filtering through the double-glazed balcony glass. Before he could pour the hot water over his loose green tea leaves, a sharp, crisp scrape against the laminate flooring by the entryway drew his attention. Looking down across the small living space, he noticed a stiff piece of cardstock peeking out from beneath the front door—a late-arriving strata committee notice that must have been slid into the slot while he was staring at his phone.

Frowning, Ryan set the kettle down and walked over to pick up the paper, the mundane annoyance of building politics briefly pushing aside the heavier anxieties of phantom logistics manifests and architectural anomalies. The notice, printed on official building management letterhead and scrawled with urgent blue pen, explicitly commanded him to inspect the building's disputed basement-level water meter immediately before the strata inspectors arrived to clear the northern stack. Outside, a lone commuter train rumbled down the T9 Northern Line toward the city, its rhythmic clatter vibrating faintly through the floorboards as Ryan slipped his apartment keys into his pocket, realizing Sunday morning was shaping up to be just as bureaucratic as the rest of the week.

No suggestion won this turn. The story continued on its own.
