Turn 118 • Day 4Turn 22 of 32

Before Ryan could even begin to process the dense web of forged signatures and fabricated industrial overhauls resting in his portfolio, a bright square of pale pink paper caught his eye on the upper-right bezel of his primary monitor. The digital clock in the system tray blinked 16:32, reminding him that the workday was rapidly bleeding toward its conclusion, but this new addition bore none of the ominous, scrawled warnings of the past few hours. Instead, it was written in a neat, professional corporate cursive that belonged unmistakably to a colleague from the finance pod two rows over.

Ryan, the note read, the ink fresh and slightly smudged under the office fluorescent lights, just following up on the regional catering expense report for the Mascot pop-up. Accounts says it's three weeks overdue under your profile, and audit is flagging the missing receipt. Ryan stared at the pastel square, a cold, surreal wave washing over him. He had never managed a Mascot pop-up, had never filed an expense report for catering in his life, yet the administrative machinery of Corravale Beverages was treating the phantom debt as an absolute, undeniable reality.

Across the open-plan pod, the colleague in question was calmly sipping from a ceramic mug, her attention fixed entirely on a pivot table. The utter normality of it—the low hum of the air-conditioning, the distant clatter of a stapler, the banal terror of a routine overdue invoice—made the conspiracy feel infinitely more claustrophobic. With a slow, heavy breath, Ryan peeled the pink note from the plastic frame, folding it carefully to join the mounting archive of paper ghosts in his pocket, and stared blankly back at his blinking cursor as the minutes ticked toward five o'clock.

No suggestion won this turn. The story continued on its own.
